Today we made cloud dough! I found this simple recipe online and just tweaked it a little. I added in sprinkles to add a little more texture and to make it pretty. The recipe called for 1/4 C baby oil and 2 C flour. I actually ended up adding quite a bit more baby oil than the recipe said. If you do this yourself, just put in the 1/4 C and keep adding more until its easy to form a ball. I added around 1tbs sprinkles.
Ella had the time of her life playing with it. As you can see in the first photograph, she was kind of throwing it around in the air! It was so exciting to watch her having so much fun. Other than throwing it around, she really enjoyed squeezing it and letting it run through her fingers… I was really surprised to see how long it actually took her to try and put it in her mouth. A lot of the times, that is the first place she tries to put everything! So either she’s learning or she was just really entertained; I’m thinking it was both. 😉
Before I go on, I wanted to add that children should not eat this mixture. Although baby oil is designed for babies, it still should not be ingested. It is safe for little hands as long as your baby has not previously shown signs of allergy to any of these ingredients. A little taste will not hurt, but take care not to let your little ones sit and eat this stuff.
I’m a huge fan of these messy sensory activities. It gives little ones full permission to get messy, and this is so exciting for them! If you haven’t already, check out my blog on our pastel paint activity. I highly recommend both of these activities for kids of all ages.
