Friday we had a blast playing with our homemade paint! This is the first time Ella has gotten the OK to roll around and really get messy. The idea of letting her play with paint came to me the other day, and I decided to see if I could find any baby safe recipes. Sure enough, I came across one that only called for flour, salt, water, and food coloring.
She was a little shy at first, but let me tell you, after the first 3 minutes of trying to figure it out, she really took advantage of the opportunity. It was nothing short of a great time. As much as I tried to keep her from eating it, she did get a tiny taste and learned very quickly that it was not good! Other than that, she really loved sticking her hands in the containers and squishing the paint between her fingers. At one point, she was even on her hands and knees sliding around; it was really amusing for the both of us.
We’ll definitely be doing this activity again in the future, and in case you’re wondering, here’s the recipe I used:
- 2 T – salt
- 1/3 C – flour
- 2 C – water
- In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients on med-high heat. Stir continuously until it forms a thick paste.
- Separate equal parts into containers of your choice and add food coloring. (For mine I used pastel food coloring with only 1 drop per container.)
Seriously that’s it, super doable, inexpensive, and super fun for the kids!
